Thiyagarajan, “Thyagu”, is a seasoned banker with over three decades of experience in Treasury, Risk Management, Fund Management and Investment Banking. He was Treasurer at Canara Bank, India's second largest public sector bank. Subsequently, he became the Treasurer and Investment Bank Head-Indian Sub-continent of Citibank and later the Global Finance Area Executive - South Asia of the bank. |
In that position he managed the Corporate banking, local currency and forex trading and corporate finance activities. During his tenure, Citibank was the dominant player in trading and capital markets and pioneered the Funds Management Activity. Thyagu left Citibank in 1993 as Vice President - Office of CFO, New York.
Thereafter, he was the Group Managing Director and Corporate Treasurer of Sinar Mas Group, Jakarta, Indonesia and served on the group board. Here he managed a large USD loan portfolio, created a hedging plan and raised and restructured debt. He was instrumental in creating a pan-Asia strategy for the group.
Since 1995 he has been the Managing Director of Aquarius Investment Advisors Pte Ltd, Singapore an investment advisory and funds management firm, advising large pool of international investors with specific focus on Non-resident Indians and India investments. He brings to the table his unique knowledge of India, its financial markets and excellent corporate relationships built during his 30 years of investment banking experience.
Thiyagarajan holds a M.Sc. from Madras University. He has attended the Programme for Management Development at the Harvard Business School.
